Do food colorings jibe with organic eating?

The Associated Press is running a story about organic food colorings and quotes Whole Foods as saying they don't 'jibe' with what organic consumers want, but conversely White Wave would love to be able to make nice pink smoothies that can say 100% Organic on the bottle.

The article also notes that some organic food colorings, such as Hibiscus have medicinal properties

The article talks about children being the only part of the organic sector wanting coloring in food. I love using colors for frosting. The ones I use are all natural by dancing deer but it looks like if I want to splurge at Nature's Flavors I can get organic colors for $10 an once. It would be nice to keep my kid's cookies %100 organic!
