Go local for May

May

1

I can hardly believe it is May Day! Time flies when you are eating well and living right. Last May the Eat Local Challenge blog encouraged readers to take on eating local foods for the month and it seems like a great time of year to start because the April showers really do bring some May flowers and many other things to forage near to home. Also getting back into the habit of going to the farmer's market this month is a fine idea because as the seasons progress through summer and fall you will experience the bounty of your homeland. What defines 'local' you might wonder. The sensus seems to be 100 miles from home or thereabouts. The pledge that the locavores like over at Eat Local Challenge is:

"If not LOCALLY PRODUCED, then Organic. If not ORGANIC, then Family farm. If not FAMILY FARM, then Local business. If not a LOCAL BUSINESS, then FAIR TRADE. If all else fails, at least don’t eat at McDonald’s!"
How about THIS challenge? See how many locally produced items made from organic ingredients, grown on local, family farms you can find for sale at local businesses. After you find them tell us what they are and if they are good!
