Paris Organic: Le Grand Appétit

It's Thanksgiving in the US and most Americans will have a Grand Appétit today! We gave thanks today, here in Paris, for the organic vegetables the earth provides by dining at Le Grand Appétit. This casual little restaurant is 99% organic and fully vegan and macrobiotic.

Le Grand Appétit is in the neighborhood of the Bastille and its menu consists of macrobiotic plates, raw salads, soups, savory and sweet tarts as well as a few other choices. The macro plate which consisted of a bulgar croquette, a thick red lentil puree, raw grated veggies and salad, cooked carrots, and seaweed, with a mild dressing was truly a satisfying Thanksgiving feast.
Rice and tofu was specially prepared for and devoured by my little ones, accompanied by a couple of glasses of kombucha. Unlike some macrobiotic restaurants, Le Grand Appétit offers a good selection of beers and sake: we chose a beer by the ever reliable Rapunzel.
As well as the restaurant, right next door is the whole foods shop by the same name. The shop is well stocked and you won't find any animal products here either except for the occasional egg. Nuts, seeds, dried fruit and legumes are available in bulk and the produce section is fresh and colorful. Not to be missed is the delicious organic miso handmade in Japan. Either the store or the restaurant alone is well worth the visit, but doing the double is even better.
