Abernathy Elementary, in Portland Oregon, recently began cooking student lunches from scratch in their own kitchen. It's cheaper and the kids like it better! After you read (or listen to!) the article you might want to compare it to the lunch menu for rest of the Portland school system.

I like that they are buying local, hopefully they'll move toward organic next. :) And oh my! The school lunch program! Their own guidelines say encourage fruit and veg but it's like carnivore's heaven. :(

The Berkeley School System has been running a local, organic lunch program that also strives to educate and involve children in the process from garden to plate. Yumm!
